About David Barr Construction

David Barr Construction is a small custom home building company which has been based in Almonte, Ontario for the past 25 years.
As my many satisfied clients know, my focus is on quality in construction technologies, materials and finishes. A quality home which is both beautiful and energy efficient matters to more and more people and I find that my company's approach really resonates with people when we sit down to talk.
The elements that I believe set my company apart include:
- a commitment to ongoing learning and evolution in home building and in energy efficient home building technologies
- exceptional relationships with sub-contractors: I give every sub-contractor the space they need in which to do their job well and they, in turn, are there when I need them and bring the same commitment to quality
- exceptional listening: I spend many hours upfront understanding the homeowner's needs and wishes and work closely with them to ensure that the end product is executed to reflect those needs in the best possible way
A brief timeline
1984 – Building decks, small home projects, house framing, general carpentry.
1987 – Started to build approximately one custom home each year, in addition to general building and carpentry projects.
1991 – Qualified for R2000 certification as my awareness of environmental issues, including chemical sensitivities, and energy efficiency issues grew.
1996 – The building of new custom homes became the main activity of David Barr Construction as my accumulated experience and knowledge from a long career in construction came together in an informed and quality-focused approach to home building.
2003 – My focus on green home building and healthy homes continued to evolve. Having observed that a lot of standard building practice did not adequately address many potential hazards, my dedication to eliminating anything that might cause chemical insensitivities and other unhealthy living conditions in new homes grew significantly. I also began the move towards building with insultated concrete forms (ICF), which I believe to be a superior building method.
Today – My commitment to continually expanding my knowledge and experience of the best building methods and materials for achieving healthy homes with minimal environmental impact continues.
